Important Update on Driving Test Availability
In a recent additional correspondence to our local MSP Gillian Martin, committee member Phil Machray has requested more information on what is being done to provided more test slots in Aberdeenshire. Both the response from Ms Martin and the reply she received from Loveday Ryder (DVSA Chief Executive) are detailed below.
Key Concerns Addressed
One of the primary concerns highlighted by Phil Machray is the availability of driving tests and the resulting delays, sometimes of up to 5 months, that are impacting learners. Local Driving Schools and individuals are experiencing challenges in securing test slots, impacting on securing jobs and mobility in rural Aberdeenshire.
Exploring Potential Solutions
Ms Ryder of the DVSA has highlighted that 3 new examners have been recruited in Aberdeen. As the Aberdeen test centres oversee and provide staff to the rural test locations like Inverurie, Huntly and Peterhead, this increase will, we hope provide a more secure availability of tests. Unfortunately, as yet, this is not what is being seen on the ground.

Implications for Local Driving Schools
The ramifications of driving test availability directly affect our local driving schools. Delays not only disrupt training schedules but can also influence the financial stability of these establishments. Understanding these dynamics is crucial for our members as we continue to advocate for improvements in the testing system and work towards a sustainable solution for all stakeholders involved.
Keeping The Local Community Informed
As the situation evolves, we remain committed to providing the latest updates regarding driving test availability and related developments.
